Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam: SJVN
Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam, or SJVN, is an Indian public-sector enterprise that generates and transmits hydroelectric power. It was founded in 1988 as Nathpa Jhakri Power Corporation, a joint venture between the governments of India and Himachal Pradesh. Through its two hydropower plants, Nathpa Jhakri and Rampur, the firm has a total working hydropower capacity of 1912 MW. It also has a wind power capacity of 97.6 MW and a solar power capacity of 6.9 MW.
SJVN has hydropower projects under construction in Nepal and Bhutan, in addition to India.
SJVN will invest Rs 35K crore over five years to increase generation capacity by 3,000 MW:
The SJVN plans to invest Rs 35,000 crore over the next five years to increase its generation capacity by 3,000 MW from the current installed capacity of 2,016.51 MW. "We will not accept funds from the state government or the federal government to make this investment." "The funding would come from our profits and bank loans," SJVN chairman and MD Nand Lal Sharma explained. The company thinks it has the financial strength to fund the equity element of new projects, with a current networth of Rs 11,759.31 crore.
Sharma stated that the SJVN has made a profit of Rs 17,300 crore since the commissioning of the 1,500 MW Nathpa Jakhri project in 2003-04. "In the last 17 years, we have given the Centre a dividend of Rs 4,934 crore and the state government a dividend of Rs 1,949 crore," Sharma added. "In addition, the government gained an additional Rs 4,000 crore from the power that the company provides to the state." While hydropower remains the largest contribution to the SJVN pool (1912 MG), wind and solar electricity contribute 97.6 MW and 6.91 MW, respectively.
"The SJVN is currently harnessing power projects at various phases of development." "These projects include 13 hydro projects, two solar projects, and one thermal project, with a total capacity of 5574 MW when completed," Sharma said. In addition to their goal of having a 25,000 MW capacity by 2040, Sharma stated that they were on track to attain a 5,000 MW capacity by 2022-23.
SJVN secures a Rs 1,000 crore solar power project in Bihar:
State-run SJVN Ltd stated on Saturday that it has won a Rs 1,000 crore grid-connected solar PV power project in Bihar. SJVN chairman and managing director Nand Lal Sharma said in a statement that SJVN Ltd won the project at an e-reverse auction on August 13, 2021, for a quoted capacity of 200 MW at Rs 3.11/unit on a Build Own and Operate (BOO) basis.
SJVN took part in a tariff-based competitive bidding procedure for a 200 MW solar project floated by the Bihar Renewable Energy Development Agency (BREDA), along with three other bidders.
He went on to say that the project's construction and development costs are estimated to be Rs 1,000 crore.
The project is planned to generate 420.48 MU (million units) in the first year, with a total energy generation of around 10,512 MU during a 25-year timeframe.
The PPA will be signed for a period of 25 years by BREDA and SJVN.
Sharma further stated that SJVN currently has a total installed capacity of 2,016.5 MW, which includes two 1,912 MW hydropower projects and four 104.5 MW renewable power plants (two solar plants of 6.9 MW and 2 wind plants of 97.6 MW).
Previously, SJVN was awarded two solar projects totaling 145 MW in Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh. Both of these solar projects were won through open competitive bidding.
SJVN now has 345 MW of solar projects under construction, thanks to its recent allotment of 200 MW.
He noted that all of these solar projects are expected to be completed by March 2022, representing a massive increase in SJVN's renewable capacity.
The Government of India has envisioned a vision of Power to All 24X7 and has set a target of 175 GW of renewables, with solar accounting for 100 GW by 2022.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared in September last year at the United Nations Climate Action Summit that the renewable energy target would be increased to 450 GW by 2030 from 175 GW by 2022.
In line with the Government of India's target, SJVN has set a shared vision of adding 5,000 MW by 2023, 12,000 MW by 2030, and 25,000 MW by 2040.
