What are Mono-PERC solar panels?

Monocrystalline cells (Mono) are made from a single crystal of silicon. They boast excellent efficiency, superior low-light performance, and a long lifespan as a result of their silicon crystal construction. As the name suggests, polycrystalline (Poly) materials are formed by melting several silicon crystals. They are simple to produce, economical, and produce minimal waste. However, fast developments in cell manufacturing techniques are beginning to diminish the poly modules' cost advantage over mono modules. Mono modules account for fifty percent of global PV cell output in 2018. Other cell advancements include biface and thin film. However, the former is relatively new while the latter has poor residential efficiency.

PERC is an innovation that is presently accessible in Mono and Poly cells. Solar cells typically feature an emitter layer on the front surface and a black coating on the back. Passivated Emitter and Back Cell (PERC), on the other hand, employs dielectric passivation film on the rear surface of the cells. Therefore, the front surface of PERC cells collects sunlight while the back surface absorbs scattered or reflected light. Due to stronger light absorption and internal reflection, this leads in greater generation than their classic equivalents. These two factors provide several benefits to end users, particularly Bigwit Energy residential consumers.

There are two key highlights of PERC modules:

Better flexibility – provides the end-users with more tilt and placement options without sacrificing performance – convenient for residential consumers with limited roof space.

Higher energy density accompanied with lower levelized energy costs results in shorter payback times.

When two of the best technologies on the market are combined, energy efficiency can increase by up to 22 percent, which justifies the high capital investment of a retail solar power system. less solar panels can get the desired energy output. Their superior low-light and high-temperature performance allows for greater installation and mounting versatility. Mono PERC may not be appropriate for all solar projects. However, they are ideal for residential rooftop installations, where a quicker return on investment and reduced installation costs are the primary motivating reasons. Consumers are unavoidably compelled to choose mono PERC panels as the need for high-efficiency panels rises. Bigwit Energy purchases and installs modules from the majority of tier-one manufacturers, including Trina, Longi, and Panasonic.

PERC technology will exert pressure on the supply chain of conventional solar cells.

Strong global demand for more efficient modules is driving the expansion of PERC technologies, including as HJT and IBC, which are anticipated to acquire market share beginning in 2017. By 2020, PERC will become a mainstream technology, as it currently holds the leading position among innovative technologies. Top cell manufacturers are rapidly updating a portion of their existing in-cell lines to PERC or placing orders for new PERC lines.

Describe PERC solar cells.

Either Passivated Emitter and Rear Cell or Passivated Emitter and Rear Contact might stand for PERC. Simply said, a PERC solar cell is a more efficient solar cell, which means that solar panels with PERC cells can convert sunlight into useful electricity more efficiently. Solar Panels Brisbane built using PERC solar cells often perform better in both low-light and high-temperature circumstances than conventional panels. PERC technology increases efficiency by adding a layer to the back of a conventional solar cell, which provides a number of benefits to the production of the cell.

What distinguishes PERC solar cells from conventional solar cells?

A PERC solar cell is constructed similarly to a conventional photovoltaic solar cell. Both types of solar technology employ silicon wafers to generate a flow of electrons using incoming solar energy, and the cell types' overall construction is extremely similar. The primary distinction between PERC cells and conventional monocrystalline photovoltaic cells is the incorporation of a back surface passivation layer, which is a layer of material on the back of the cells that gives three main advantages that increase cell efficiency.

How can a rear surface passivation layer increase the efficiency of solar cells? The passivation layer of a PERC solar cell boosts total efficiency in three ways:

1. Light reflected back through the cell

A back surface passivation layer reflects light that passes through the silicon cell without being absorbed, providing the solar cell a second chance to absorb the light. This light reflection results in more incoming solar radiation being absorbed by the silicon cell, hence increasing its efficiency.

2. Lessening of electron recombination

The inclusion of a rear surface passivation layer to the solar cell minimizes "electron recombination." electron recombination is the tendency for electrons to recombine, which impedes the free circulation of electrons across the solar cell. This restriction of free electron transport results in suboptimal cell performance. In order to improve the efficiency of PERC solar cells, electron recombination is minimized.

3. Reduced thermal conductivity

The third advantage of a PERC solar cell is its ability to reflect certain wavelengths of light. A silicon wafer in a solar cell can only absorb light with wavelengths of up to 1180 nanometers (nm), while higher-wavelength light is absorbed by the solar panel's metal back sheet, generating heat. When solar cells are heated, their efficiency decreases. The rear surface passivation layer of PERC solar cells is designed to reflect light with a wavelength greater than 1180 nm, hence reducing the solar cell's heat energy and boosting its efficiency.

PERC solar cell manufacture

One of the primary reasons why PERC technology is so effective is the minimum investment required to begin manufacturing PERC solar cells as opposed to conventional monocrystalline solar cells. In order to generate PERC cells,

Two further production steps are required:

– Application of the back surface passivation layer – Laser/chemical etching of the passivation layer to create small pockets

These two stages do not significantly increase the cost of solar cell production and result in a higher quality, more energy-dense solar cell. Cost of new equipment production is a traditional barrier to new solar cell technology, and PERC solar cells require a minimal financial commitment to upgrade to a superior product.

The advantages of PERC technology for solar consumers

Solar panels constructed with PERC technology enable more energy-efficient solar systems. This means that the same amount of energy can be generated with less PERC solar panels than with more conventional solar panels. Consequently, your expenditures might be decreased by using fewer solar panels for your installation. Additionally, the fewer solar panels you require, the more options you have for positioning them on your roof. Using PERC solar panels or any other high-efficiency panel product can make a solar installation capable of producing the required amount of energy possible even with limited roof area.

Reducing the amount of solar panels you need reduces the balance-of-system (BOS) costs associated with your solar panel installation. BOS costs are typically all costs associated with solar installation components other than solar modules. Inverters, racks, and wiring all contribute to your BOS expenses, and the less solar panels you require, the fewer complimentary components you will also need.
