Modhera Village will be declared India's first solar-powered village by PM Modi.

According to the government of Gujarat, over one thousand solar panels have been erected on the roofs of the homes in the hamlet, which will generate electricity for the inhabitants around the clock.

Today (9th Oct 2022), Prime Minister Narendra Modi will declare Modhera, a village in the Mehsana district of Gujarat, to be the first solar-powered village in India, according to the Gujarat government.

The sun temple in Modhera is legendary.

According to a series of tweets from the government of Gujarat, over a thousand solar panels have been erected on the roofs of the homes in the hamlet, which will generate electricity for the people around the clock. Significantly, they will receive solar electricity at no charge.

According to the 2011 census, the population of Modhera village in Becharaji Taluka is 6,373.

The government of Gujarat allocated 12 hectares for the project's development.

In two phases, the federal and state governments spent a total of 80.66 billion.

More than 1,300 1 kW rooftop solar systems have been installed on homes in the town to generate electricity. Solar panels provide the daytime electricity supply. The BESS delivers power to the homes in the evening.

The announcement touted Modhera as the first modern community with an ultramodern solar-powered charging station for electric vehicles. This project is also notable for being India's first megawatt-hour size battery energy storage system connected to the grid.

The project entailed the construction of a ground-mounted solar power plant and over 1,300 rooftop solar systems on residential and government buildings, all of which were connected with a battery energy storage system (BESS).

It will demonstrate how India's strength in renewable energy can empower people at the grassroots level, according to the statement.

Keeping in mind the Prime Minister's aim of expanding the usage of renewable energy in India, the Gujarati government stated that it had ensured the sustainable implementation of different welfare initiatives in Gujarat.

The Sun Temple of Modhera, a protected ancient monument, will receive a 3-D projection facility on October 9. The solar-powered 3-D display will educate visitors about the history of Modhera, according to the Gujarat government. It will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Modi.

This project would result in 60% to 100% savings on electricity expenses, according to the statement.

On the temple grounds, heritage lighting has been erected as part of the restoration. People can view the temple's illumination between 6 and 10 p.m. Every evening, the 3-D projector will run.

The Sun Temple is located in Modhera, Mehsana district, on the banks of the Pushpavati river. In 1026-27, it was constructed by King Bhima-I of the Chaulukya dynasty.

"I am delighted that Gujarat has once again taken the initiative in realising the Prime Minister's aim of producing sustainable energy. "We are dedicated to achieving his goal of meeting 50 percent of India's energy needs with renewable energy by 2030," stated Gujarat's chief minister, Bhupendra Patel.

Modhera is the first hamlet in India to become a net generator of renewable energy, according to a statement from the Gujarat government.

"The use of solar energy has boosted the prosperity of the populace. Bills for electricity, which were previously greater than 1,000, have practically reached zero today. Solar panels have been put at no cost on all possible homes. According to Jatanben Thakor, the Sarpanch of Modhera, if there is an excess of energy, we also get extra revenue.

In a prime example of ecotourism, solar-powered electric vehicle charging stations have been installed in the Modhera temple region.
